As grey sky turns to blue and spring rolls into summer, Brazilian Wax has a lot to celebrate. Not only do we celebrate our second year anniversary but we also celebrate the end of a long distance relationship between our co-founders, Henry Weekes and Joe Osborne. For this, we thought we’d bring in our favourite DJ from the sun soaked shores of Brazil itself, DJ Tahira.
Cutting his teeth on the Sao Paulo DJ circuit in the ’90s, Tahira has become famous for championing all varieties of Afro-Brazilian music, styles that are often overlooked by western DJs in favour of the heavily American influenced Brazilian boogie and disco sounds. His edits have become staples for DJs such as Francois K, Gilles Peterson, Nightmares on Wax and more and his edit of Gilberto Gil’s “Toda Menina Baiana” received the seal of approval from Gil himself. Tahira is a selector we deeply admire at Brazilian Wax and it’s a dream come true that he is joining us in Leeds as part of his European tour.
As always, we’ll be serving hot and sizzling samba, Afro-Brazilian, Soul, Disco and modern Brazilian electronics in a celebration of all things Brazil.
